but I have to say, tonight was probably one of the best nights of my life.
I apologize to everyone for not updating my journal any sooner; I guess I haven't really had too much to say despite how I've had so much going on lately. I'll post a general life update sometime in the near future in case anyone is interested, but I just wanted to get this out there before I take a shower and head to bed after such a crazy day:
So today my friend Danny ( ~Vash-15
) took me to my first legitimate rock concert (Summer Haze Festival) in Lake Worth, Florida, which is about an hour from where we live; got to hang out with him for about an hour or so before we had to leave, and he let me borrow one of his band shirts to boost our legitimacy as fans and look good when we got there. While it rained for 90% of the day, it didn't seem to make a difference to anyone who went to the festival, where the bands were playing all day from noon to midnight: if anything, it made the bands more appreciative of the crowd and showed just how devoted people can be to good music. I personally wish there could've been a little less smoking, but hey, it was an outdoor arrangement for the most part.
I can't remember more than a handful of bands that were there, aside from the more notable ones that were headlining (Ballyhoo, Authority Zero, and Versus the World). The entire point of my friend and I going was to see the latter though, and oh my god did we ever~
It started out simple : while a band was setting up the merchandise salesman from Ballyhoo, who was helping them, noticed our Versus the World shirts and offered to introduce us to them before they started setting up for their set at 11 pm. He kept his word, and we got a couple of quick handshakes and a bit of friendly conversation in, with the band members seeming really pleased with the shirts/that we came all this way/that my friend was such a hardcore fan/etc. They were really great, and a couple more hours passed and it was finally time to start their show.
I really couldn't believe it; they played most of my favorite songs from their "Drink. Sing. Live. Love." album, and a couple from the self titled one from 2005, but what really surprised me that I was able to sing along so enthusiastically from the front row with my friend after having already been at the festival for seven hours (granted we were pretty
much the only ones doing it at that point; most other people left the venue before then). Our enthusiasm didn't go unnoticed though-- the band kept calling shout outs to us during and in-between songs, and even towards the end of the set told us they pretty much dedicated the entire performance to the two of us because we made their night with how into it and supportive of them we were (which led to more high fives and fist bumps during the show).
After the show we waited around to buy our own VTW merchandise and to get the band to sign a couple things, which ended up going so much better than expected; aside from dedicating the show to us, they also gave us the freedom to pick anything that we wanted from their inventory and just gave it to us for free. (I ended up just picking a shirt and my friend got two, didn't want to take advantage of their generosity) After picking up the shirts and signatures we asked one last favor, which was to go outside to get a picture with the singer (Donald Spence)-- since Danny's been a strongly supportive fan of the band since the beginning, they got into talking about how much they appreciate his dedication and how cool Spence thought he was with all of his covers and everything, which led to an invitation for both of us to hang out tomorrow to chill and have breakfast and just talk and jam on some of their new equipment before they have to leave town.
Guys. I GET TO HAVE BREAKFAST AND HANG OUT WITH ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS. OHMYGOD.
I really hope this all works out tomorrow, and that I don't somehow end up missing it or making a fool out of myself. Oh my god I'm so nervous I'm going to have to sing their songs with them and I'll be the only girl there jeez wow. Hopefully it'll all turn out alright though, and that things will go as great tomorrow as they did today. In the meantime, I hope that the rest of you have all been doing well too, and I look forward to getting back into the cycle of things soon~<3
